Three indicted in Brockton restaurant murder
BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Three men have been indicted in a January shooting murder inside a restaurant, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
Jamal Bazile, 18, of Brockton was indicted on charges of murder, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and other charges.
Also indicted on murder charges was Nathan Veiga, 23.
Nicholas Veiga, 21, was indicted on one count of trafficking fentanyl.
The incident occurred on January 12 at approximately 7:24 p.m. when Brockton police responded to calls of a shooting inside Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet on Crescent Street.
Joe Araujo, 22, of Brockton, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where was pronounced dead with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg.
Brockton police and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit investigated the case using restaurant surveillance footage which showed the shooting.
Bazile was identified as a male in a distinct jacket and sneakers who was allegedly shown dropping a to-go box, producing a firearm and shooting at Araujo three times, striking him twice.
Executing a search warrant on Veiga’s residence, police located the jacket the suspect was seen wearing in the video.
A large amount of fentanyl was also found during the search and Veiga was arrested.
Bazile was located at a house in Hyannis and was arrested after allegedly assaulting police officers.
Police say he had a loaded 9mm pistol in his possession.
They will be arraigned on charges at a later date in Brockton Superior Court.
