No working smoke alarms at Taunton home where person died
TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal said that there were no working smoke alarms at the Taunton home where a fire killed one person on Aug. 22.
The investigation found two out-of-date alarms in the home with dead batteries.
“Our hearts go out to the family that lost a loved one yesterday,” Taunton Fire Chief Steven Lavigne said. “We also want to urge everyone in our community to be sure you and your loved ones have working smoke alarms at home. Install them on every level of the home and test them every month to be sure you and the people you care for are protected.”
Firefighters responded to the area around 3:30 p.m. to find smoke coming from the building.
While fighting the fire, the department said it found the occupant in the home, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
