Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori to fly over Newport in demonstration

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Italian Air Force, Frecce Tricolori, is set to perform a historic flyover of Newport in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Giovanni da Verrazzano’s landing in 1524.
According to a release, The Frecce Tricolori will approach the city from the south in a 9-jet formation, displaying their signature red, white, and green smoke trails.
They will perform multiple passes over the city and its iconic landmarks that include Fort Adams, the Naval War College and the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge.
The flyover is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., subject to change due to air traffic and weather conditions enroute.
Governor Dan McKee and North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi are set to greet members of the Frecce Tricolori after the demonstration.
