RIDOH recommends the closing of two ponds
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Management advised the closing of two ponds on Monday.
RIDOH said Lower Melville Pond in Portsmouth and Carr Pond in North Kingstown were advised to be closed due to suspected blue-green algae.
Blue-green algae is said to produce toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals according to RIDOH, and all recreational activities should be avoided when the algae is present.
RIDOH said the advisory will be in effect until further notice.
