New Bedford installs free sunscreen dispensers at parks, beaches

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford has installed 10 free sunscreen dispensers at locations across the city.

This pilot program will be gauged for its success, and will return for the entire summer of 2025 if successful.

The dispensers were installed using funds from Massachusetts’ Public Health Excellence Share Services grant program and can be found in the following locations:

  • East Beach
  • Fort Taber Bath House
  • West Beach, at the bath house
  • Cove Walk Entrance near Kilburn Mill
  • Harbor Walk Entrance near Rodney Street
  • Monte Park, near the pavilion, facing Acushnet Avenue
  • Buttonwood Park, on the paved path near the playground
  • Brooklawn Park, near the parking lot close to the playground and splash pad
  • Riverside Park, near the pavilion and splash pad
  • Noah’s Place Playground on Pope’s Island

The dispensers will be in place through early fall.
