Providence Public Schools announce salary increase for special education teachers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Public Schools and the teachers union have announced a pay raise for special educators.

District officials said the new opportunity is a $10,000 base salary increase for educators moving into three specialized areas, which include Special Education, Behavior Intervention Programs, and Exceptional Child Services or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The pay bump will also apply to current providence educators working in those roles.

According to a release, the initiative reflects PPSD’s commitment to meeting the needs of students requiring specialized educational support while recognizing and rewarding the expertise of educators in these critical areas.
