Brockton Public Schools mourn loss of 10-year-old killed in crash in Plainville

BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Brockton Public Schools are mourning the loss of a rising Downey School fifth grader.
In a Facebook post, Brockton schools wrote that it was challenging “to find the words to describe the sense of loss brought on by this tragedy.”
On Saturday, according to ABC6’s affiliate station, 10-year-old Jaylen Bush-Victorian died in a crash that injured his siblings, who also attend Brockton schools.
His parents were also injured, including his mother who serves as a paraprofessional at the Barrett Russell Early Childhood Center.
42-year-old Michael Escolas is accused of stealing a car from the Kenny Chesney concert and crashing it into the back of the car stopped at a red light that was carrying the 10-year-old’s family.
Escolas is a facing a motor vehicle manslaughter charge, with a list of other charges.
The post continues that members of the district leadership team have been in regular communication with Jaylen’s family and will “continue to hold them close moving forward, offering every available resource to support them as they mourn this tragic loss.”
“Our hearts are with the family and all those who love them as they mourn,” the post states.
The post continues that members of the school community who are feeling especially impacted by this loss are encouraged to visit the Downey School today to speak with adjustment counselors and obtain resources for support.
