Providence unveils ‘Mr. Lemon Place’
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WNE) — The iconic Mr. Lemon received special recognition last night.
Mayor Brett Smiley and other local officials joined in holding a ceremonial street dedication for the couple who owned the business, Mr. Joseph and Eileen Rao.
Hawkins Street is now called “Mr. Lemon Place.”
“When we do street namings, we try to preserve legacy, that’s why we do this so that the people who come after us know this place means something and it meant something,” said Mayor Brett Smiley.
“This sign will hang in the city of Providence forever now,” he said.
The city council recognized Mr. Lemon with a resolution last month.
