New Bedford Police arrest man, woman after alleged drug transaction

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said a man was arrested on drug and firearm charges after an alleged drug deal on Aug. 27.

26-year-old Jacob Matthew-Almeida was charged with possession of a large-capacity firearm and ammunition without a license, distribution of crack cocaine, and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws.

31-year-old Tatiana Irizarry was charged with possession of crack and conspiracy.

Police said they saw a drug transaction between the two and then approached Matthew-Almeida.

After a search police allegedly found crack cocaine, a digital scale, a black fanny pack containing a loaded .45 caliber Sig Sauger P250 firearm, and $197 in cash.

Police added that Matthew-Almeida had six open cases out of New Bedford District Court.
