RIDOT closing lanes on I-95 during 2 weekends in September for bridge replacement

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department Transportation said it will be closing two lanes on Interstate 95 South near Exit 34 during two weekends in September for the “rapid replacement” of the Elmwood Avenue Bridge.

The closures will occur during the weekends of Sept. 13 and Sept. 20. and will begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays, with all lanes expected to be open by 5 a.m. Monday morning.

The work will also include the full closure of Elmwood Avenue at the I-95 overpass as well as lane splits beginning on Sept. 11.

RIDOT said travelers should use alternate routes such as Route 10 and Interstate 295 on both weekends and “plan additional time for travel.”

The department added that the rapid replacement should “save motorists more than two years of lane closures.”\
