Fairhaven police: Suspect in custody after hours-long standoff

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — Fairhaven police say the 56-year-old man who engaged them in a standoff Monday evening is in custody.

Police said they were called to Ebony Street on West Island just before 4:30 p.m. after a report of a disturbance at a home there.

Authorities later became locked in a standoff with a man they say was armed with a knife inside a trailer.

Police arrested the suspect around 8:15 p.m. after removing him from the trailer.

The suspect has only been identified as a 56-year-old Fairhaven resident.

Police say nobody was hurt and two homes were evacuated so officials could maintain a safe perimeter around the suspect.

Officials say no further information about the incident can be released under  the Domestic Violence Act of 2014.
