Suspects in murder of 7-year-old appear in court

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two suspects who are accused in the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl in Providence appeared in court today.

19-year-old Ahmari Cabrera, of Providence and 26-year-old Shaheem Nathaniel, of Cranston, were officially charged with murder in connection with the girl’s death on Thursday, August 29 on Carleton Street.

The 7-year-old passed away from her injuries after being in critical condition for three days at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Family were seen in the court room while both men were arraigned on their charges, escalating into an argument into the building and spilling out into nearby street.

On top of the murder charge, both men are facing eleven charges each including conspiracy, possession of a ghost gun, and assault with intent to murder.

Both men did not enter a plea.

Both Cabrera and Nathaniel are being held without bail.

Providence police said said the investigation is still ongoing.
