Suspect found dead after Cranston standoff
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A suspect who police say fired at his wife and then police officers was found dead inside his home after a lengthy standoff.
Cranston police responded to a home on Harding Avenue for a report that a man was making suicidal and homicidal statements.
Police said 69-year-old Neil Douglas, who was battling illness, shot at his wife before she was able to escape and call 911.
Police said Douglas then fired at arriving police officers, but missed, and the bullets lodged in a home across the street.
After a SWAT team responded, police eventually entered Douglas’s home shortly after midnight Wednesday morning and found him dead inside. Police said he suffered an apparent “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
