Cranston man accused of DUI crash with child in car appears in court

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston man accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash with a child in the car was arraigned in court on Tuesday.
22-year-old Alan Chhim was charged on various DUI and firearm charges including driving to endanger resulting in physical injury, driving under the influence of liquor with child passenger under 13-years-old and carrying a weapon while intoxicated, officials said.
According to officials, Rhode Island State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in Pawtucket.
Victims and witnesses told police Chhim was speeding and was trying to pass another vehicle when he struck a vehicle.
The collision caused the vehicle to crash into other cars and a pole.
His child was in the car when the crash occurred and was treated for injuries.
Chhim fail sobriety tests on scene at the state police barracks, according to officials.
Chhim was ordered to pretrial services to monitor substance abuse and mental health, and was ordered to surrender firearms.
He was given a $50,000 surety bail.
