Three injured after assault in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Three people were injured on Broad Street on Wednesday night in Providence.

39-year-old Jillian Zelano was charged with simple assault after she got into a dispute with a man and allegedly punch him.

Zelano allegedly slashed two people with a box cutter when she attempted to defend herself, as they attempted to assault her and take her phone. 

According to police, one of the individuals was charged, 41-year-old Kyle Spurgeon.

Police said he struck Zelano with a blunt force object that he took from his car.  

Spurgeon was subsequently placed into custody at RI Hospital and charged with robbery, felony assault, and conspiracy.  

None of the injuries to any of the subjects involved were life threatening, according to police.
