Philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein dies at at 93

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island’s own Alan Shawn Feinstein has passed away at the age of 93, according to his obituary.
Feinstein was an educational philanthropist known for giving millions of dollars to schools and scholarship programs to help children in need.
Some schools were even named after him, including the Alan Shawn Feinstein Elementary school in Providence.
Feinstein also founded the Cranston-based Feinstein Foundation in 1991, which “encourages youngsters to do good deeds and be kind whenever possible,” according to their website.
In a statement, U.S. Senator Jack Reed said:
“Alan Shawn Feinstein was a transformational philanthropist. He uplifted countless students through the Feinstein Foundation and Feinstein Junior Scholar program, helping to feed millions around the world through initiatives with leading universities across our region, and serving as a fixture of our communities for decades. Above all, Alan urged us all to be kind and compassionate toward one another. He knew that good deeds reverberate throughout our neighborhoods and that every one of us can make a difference. Alan will be sorely missed. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and improved. His dedicated and thoughtful approach to making the world a better place will continue to inspire us. My thoughts are with the entire Feinstein family.”
Feinstein’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 21.
