Police investigating perceived threat toward Middletown High School

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are investigating a potential threat made toward Middletown High School on Wednesday.

Middletown Public Schools Superintendent Billy Niemeyer released a statement late Wednesday night saying students and parents reported a perceived threat made online.

Police later determined the post was not credible, according to the school department, which said class would be in session Thursday.

Niemeyer said officers have been working to find the original source of the message, the contents of which were not released.

The district asked parents to remind students that, if they hear something, they are obligated to say something to an adult.

Niemeyer said the district will continue to work with the Middletown Police Department to ensure student safety.

Anyone with information on the threat is asked to contact police or school officials.
