Rhode Island health center to lay off 124 employees

Thundermist Health Pilot Program

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Thundermist Health Center announced Thursday that it is laying off 124 of its 907 employees, a cut that accounts for 14 percent of the company’s workforce.

Mike Wadewitz, a spokesperson for the company, stated that the layoffs stem from a financial crisis that is forcing Thundermist to reduce costs by $2 million per month.

62,000 Rhode Island residents use Thundermist for primary care, dental care, behavioral health services and social services.

The spokesperson went on to say that without these layoffs, the company might have to close locations and reduce services.

No locations will be closed at this time, according to the statement.
