Another merger potentially coming to Providence schools
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence public school officials are considering another merger.
The district is considering merging Hopkins Middle School and Kizirian Elementary School.
The earliest this merger would happen is during the 2025-2026 school year at the Narducci Learning Center.
The plan would be to make a decision before the school returns to the rebuilt Kizirian School during the 2026-2027 school year.
According to Jay Wegimont with the Providence Public School District, current 5th graders at Kizirian Elementary School would have the opportunity to remain in the school as 6th graders.
The current 6th and 7th graders at Hopkins Middle Schools would move together to become the new 7th and 8th grade classes at the combined school.
Teachers and staff would be expected to remain together, as well.
