North Providence woman carjacked at gunpoint
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A North Providence woman was allegedly held at gunpoint by two suspects.
According to police the woman was approached by two males as she was returning home, who forced her at gunpoint to surrender her vehicle, purse, watch, and other valuables.
The 46-year-old woman described one of the suspects as carrying a handgun and ordering her to the ground.
After robbing her, one suspect drove off in their car, while the other followed in the black SUV.
Police added that the woman was not injured, but are urging residents to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings.
The department is also currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras, including from a nearby high school security system.
“We’re checking the camera footage from surrounding buildings,” Chief Alfredo Ruggiero said. “The backside of the high school has a very good camera system, and we’re checking that as well.”
Investigators are also looking into whether the incident is connected to any other recent crimes.
“It has been determined that the robberies that occurred in Central Falls and the robbery that occurred here are unrelated,” Ruggiero said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the carjacking to contact them at 401-719-1449.
