TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The suspect in the murder of a 17-year-old in Taunton on Sept. 19 was in court Wednesday.

18-year-old Kareem Gendraw was charged with murder and possession of a firearm without a license.

Police said that Gendraw allegedly shot and killed 17-year-old Khamitri Cole at a gathering on Lowthrop Street.

Gendraw was held without bail and is expected back in court on Oct. 25.

A GoFundMe was set up by Cole’s family for funeral expenses.

“Simply put, he was the realest person I have met. He was there for everyone in their time of need. He was loving and compassionate and extremely loved by everyone who met him,” his mom said in a statement to ABC6 news.
