Swansea used car business owner wanted by police in connection with fraud scheme
SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — The Swansea Police Department said that it has charged the owner of a used car business in connection with an ongoing investigation into a fraud scheme.
46-year-old Edward Cicciu, of Attleboro, has multiple fraud-related warrants and is wanted by police.
The department said that 25 people have reported that they were defrauded by Bristol County Auto Exchange since May.
Cicciu allegedly received cars on loan from a local auction but did not receive the titles.
He would then put the cars on sale, takes the payment, attaches fake or forged license plates and promises that a title and registration will be mailed to the purchaser.
Police said Cicciu would then stop responding to the victims, preventing them from registering the vehicles, and never pays the auction for the vehicle.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the fraud scheme should contact Swansea police at 508-674-8464.
