FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to a 2019 Christmas Eve stabbing murder.

Jose Amador-Ayala, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 22 years, according to the Bristol County District Attorney.

He was convicted of murdering 39-year-old Gary Werra.

Fall River police responded to a call on December 24, 2019 at approximately 5:30 p.m. stating that Amador-Ayala had just killed someone.

He was located by officers outside of an Angel Street residence with a knife and wearing bloody clothing and was taken into custody.

Police interviewed his sister who stated she was sent to pick up Amador-Ayala from the residence and discovered him yelling and in the bloody clothing.

He showed his sister a wrapped human body in the basement, and then carried the body to her truck and demanded that she drive it to a secluded area behind Gold Medal Bakery.

Amador-Ayala left the body at this location, and during the ride admitted to killing Werra.

After dropping her brother off, the sister drove to her boyfriend’s home and told him and his mother about the murder.

The mother called 911 and the sister gave a recorded interview to police, including the location of the body.

The body of Werra was discovered to have 68 stab wounds, and the investigation determined that there had been a love triangle between Werra, Amador-Ayala and a woman.
