Hendricken defeats rival La Salle at home
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — This week’s Pick Six primetime matchup of Bishop Hendricken taking on La Salle Academy ended with the Hawks taking the victory 24-to-7.
The biggest rivals in Rhode Island, who have faced off in 10 championships in the last 13 years, came into the game with the La Salle Rams at 3-2 and Hendricken 2-2.
The two teams had a tough strength of schedule early in the season, with both coming off losses to out-of-state competition.
Tensions were high early, with referees breaking up a pregame scuffle, setting a precursor to a penalty-ridden first quarter.
Not to be fazed was Hendricken’s offense, which drove down the field in the second quarter, capped off by a rushing touchdown from quarterback Dylan Lynch.
La Salle struck right back, as quarterback Sam Perry launched a deep shot to Charles Sayegh for a touchdown.
But the Hawks would drive back down the field and punch the ball in with a rushing touchdown by Jeremy Dennis.
Hendricken would tack on a field goal later on, and their defense forced a fumble midway through the third quarter.
Michael DaSilva, Jr. then padded the lead with another rushing touchdown for the Hawks to make it 24-7.
