PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said that BrucePac has recalled almost 10 million pounds of meat products that could be tainted with listeria.

The ready-to-eat meat and poultry products were manufactured from June 19 to Oct. 8, and were distributed nationwide to markets and restaurants.

The recalled products have establishment numbers 51205 or P-51205 inside or under the U.S. Department of Agriculture mark of inspection.

The USDA urges distributers and establishments to throw away or return the recalled products.

Listeriosis can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and headaches, which can be followed by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Symptoms may last from days to several weeks, but can be treated with antibiotics.

Older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns are the most at risk of the illness.

Customers who show of listeriosis should seek medical care.

There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses related to recalled products.

Consumers with food safety questions can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854.
