UPDATE: Providence multiple robbery suspect identified

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have identified a suspect in a string of robberies that occurred on Thursday night.

Carlos Rodriguez, 20, was taken into custody and is charged with assault with intent to rob, first-degree robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

He is also facing charges for a related robbery that took place in East Providence the same night.

The first incident occurred at the Elmwood Avenue Shell station where a male suspect demanded money and assaulted the clerk before taking off on foot.

Later, a 7-11 on Cranston Street and the La Gigante Meat Market reported similar incidents.

The suspect was only able to flee with merchandise from the 7-11 incident.

A robbery was reported earlier on Manton Avenue where a victim was assault and robbed of a gold chain in front of store.

Rodriguez was later located in a silver Hyundai that matched the vehicle description given by witnesses of the robberies.
