Man charged in connection with death of woman in tractor trailer crash

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said that a 27-year-old Fall River man was charged in connection with a crash on Route 44 that killed Mallory Humphreys.

Andrew Sousa was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

On Sept. 15 around 1:30 a.m. Sousa was allegedly driving eastbound in the area of Winthrop Street when it rear-ended a tractor trailer that was being driven in the same direction.

24-year-old Humphreys was in the passenger seat of the car and died as a result of the crash.

Sousa was arraigned in Taunton District Court and had bail set at $5,000.

There were also conditions for his release, including abstaining from alcohol with random screens, not to operate a motor vehicle, and weekly reporting to the probation department.

His next court date is Nov. 15.
