Washington Bridge demolition to resume, McKee and RIDOT to provide update

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Demolition is set to resume on the Washington Bridge later today following a brief pause in September.

Governor Dan McKee is to meet with officials from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation this morning at 10 a.m. to provide an update on demolition, while giving the latest updates on reconstruction.

At the end of last week, RIDOT officials provided a brief update on the ongoing work on the deck demolition.

The update included officials saying only two or three nights of overnight hammering are left, which is set to take place this week.

Additionally, closures of Gano Street will resume starting tonight and should last two to three weeks.

The timeline for the bridge demo has also been moved back, with demolition expected to finish in February.

RIDOT is still taking open questions after last week’s zoom meeting until October 18.
