Officials bury cremains of Pawtucket Civil War solider

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials from Pawtucket held a formal ceremony from a Pawtucket Civil Water Union Solider.

Members of the Pawtucket Police Department, the Mayor’s office, Pawtucket Fire Department, and Patriot Riders, escorted the cremains of Byron R. Johnson, a Pawtucket native and Civil War Union Soldier who served in the 11th Rhode Island Infantry.

Johnson’s his final resting place at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

According to officials, for over a century, Johnson’s remains went unclaimed.
