North Smithfield Police cruiser struck by alleged drunk driver

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Smithfield Police Department said a police cruiser was struck while an officer was inside.

38-year-old Jeremy Iaciofano, of Woonsocket, was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance, and obedience to traffic control devices.

On Oct. 19 around midnight a cruiser was struck from behind while on construction detail.

The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Iaciofano “showed signs of impairment”
