Former Providence officer pleads not guilty to deadly tricycle crash

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A former Providence police officer is facing serious charges in Superior Court in connection to a deadly crash.

Daniel Famiglietti is accused of hitting and killing a tricycle rider while allegedly driving under the influence.

The deadly crash happened back on June 20.

Police said 59-year-old Daniel Famiglietti was under the influence when he hit and killed a tricyclist on Boston Neck Road.

The tricyclist , 53-year-old Linda Sherman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Famiglietti now faces two felony charges.

During the arraignment, bail was set at $20,000, and Famiglietti entered a plea of not guilty.

He was an officer with Providence police for 34 years before retiring in 2022.

The case is set to move forward with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for December 2.
