School bus driver charged with OUI while transporting children

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A school van driver was arrested on Oct. 29 by Massachusetts State Troopers for alleged operating under the influence with students on board.
Massachusetts State Police said 34-year-old Rebecca Shing, of Somerset, is charged with OUI alcohol and four counts of child endangerment OUI alcohol.
Police said they received a 911 call about a van drifting into the median and breakdown lane on Route 140 South.
The van with school bus plates was pulled over around 2:30 p.m.
Four students and one other adult were riding the bus, and Shing allegedly admitted to taking Suboxone earlier in the day.
New Bedford Public Schools confirmed to ABC6 she did not drive for their district.
Shing was transported to the MSP Dartmouth Barracks for booking after police said she tested a .15 in a breathalyzer.
She was given $1,000 cash bail.
No children were harmed during the incident.
