PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that the co-defendant of the murder of 24-year-old Miya Brophy-Baermann, and the attempted murder of Sheron Robinson, was found guilty on Wednesday.

After a 12-day trial, 33-year-old Shawn Mann was convicted of killing Miya Brophy-Baermann in a drive-by shooting in Providence.

Isaiah Pinkerton, Mann’s co-defendant, was sentenced to double life in prison and an additional 50 years on Jan. 26.

Mann was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, discharge of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence resulting in death, committing a drive-by shooting, possession of a ghost gun, carrying a pistol without a license, assault with intent to commit murder, and discharge of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, resulting in no injury.

On Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, the Providence Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Olney Street.

At the scene, rescue personnel transported the victim, 24-year-old Miya Brophy-Baermann, to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Days after the shooting, recovered surveillance footage showed Miya and Sheron being shot at from a dark colored sedan.

During investigation, detectives located one fragmented bullet from the victim’s vehicle, two 9mm cartridge cases on the street, phone location data, DNA, and ballistics evidence.

On Dec. 12, 2021, while conducting a traffic stop, Providence police discovered a ghost gun in a car that was considered a potential match to the gun used during the shooting.

After confirmed analyses, the collected spent casings from the crime scene were shown to have been shot from the recovered ghost gun.

Mann is awaiting his sentence hearing at the Adult Correctional Institutions, where he is being held without bail.
