Brush fire extinguished in Smithfield, officials say fire risk still high

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Town of Smithfield said that the brush fire on Douglas Pike between Salem Street and Decotis Farm Road was extinguished late Friday afternoon.

The tow said that residents should avoid DeCotis Farm Road or Essex Street since crews would be on scene for an extended period of time.

Residents were also warned not to light outdoor fires while dry conditions persist.

ABC 6 News crews on scene saw emergency personnel blocking streets and the smoke visible from the road.
