Veterans honor student-essay winners in Swansea

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — American Legion Post 303 honored the winners of the Veterans Day essay contest at Joseph Case Junior High School on Monday.

Each student had the chance to read their essay to the veterans and were all awarded with a certificate of appreciation.

The three winners shared why they felt it was important to express their gratitude for those who served our country.

“I have grandparents and great grandparents and uncles that have been in the military,” Lily Rego said. “I think it was very important to appreciate them and show that.”

“I thought it was important to recognize everyone who fought for us because I know a lot of my family was in the military and served for us,” Cori Beaulieu said.

“I feel like it’s important to commemorate veterans because it’s been rooted in my family for a long time,” Elijah Vasconcelos said.
