PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A former Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility correctional officer has been sentenced for smuggling controlled substances into the facility that were then given to two inmates.

Kaii Almeida-Falcones, 30, of Smithfield, was sentenced to six months in federal prison on November 14 on the charge of providing contraband to an inmate, according to the office of United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.

The incidents occurred in February of 2021 when two Wyatt inmates arranged the smuggling of the contraband via communication with a former detainee and another outside person.

These two outside subjects provided the controlled substances to Almeida-Falcones.

A package containing the controlled substance was discovered during a strip search of a detainee on February 15, 2021, and additional smuggled controlled substances were found in the cell of another detainee, concealed inside a pillowcase.

Almeida-Falcones is seen on Wyatt security video entering each of the detainees’ respective cells the night before.
