Police: Juvenile arrested for bringing BB gun to Cranston West High School

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police arrested a 15-year-old male student at Cranston West High School Tuesday for alleged possession of a BB gun on school grounds.

Several students approached the school resource officer at Cranston West informing the SRO that a student had a gun in his possession, according to the Cranston Police Department.

After seeking out the student, the SRO found and seized a replica Glock firearm later determined to be a BB gun that fired metal projectiles.

This BB gun is considered a firearm under law because it fires a metal projectile.

The student was was arrested and charged with the felony of possession of a firearm on school grounds.

There were no threats made by the student in possession of the BB gun, nor was there any threat to safety.

Cranston police commended the SRO for his rapport with students that enabled them to seek him out in this instance.

The 15-year-old student is being referred to Family Court for prosecution and the investigation is closed.
