West Warwick man charged with DUI, speeding with child in car

NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE) – A man from West Warwick was arrested Saturday after allegedly speeding while under the influence with a young child in the car.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, police arrested 34-year-old Jarvis Williams after receiving calls about a potential drunk driver.

Police discovered Williams driving south on Interstate 95 at speeds allegedly above 100 miles per hour. A three-year-old child was in the car with Williams at the time of the incident.

Law enforcement officials charged Williams with driving under the influence while a child under the age of 13 was present. He was also charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police report that the child present in the car has been returned to the custody of his mother.

Williams has been held pending arraignment.
