METHUEN, M.A. (WLNE) – A large portion of the almost 400 roosters seized in the discovery of an illegal cock-fighting-fighting operation are scheduled to be euthanized.
According to the Associated Press, Animal Control discovered evidence of illicit cock-fighting during the inspection of a farm in Northampton, M.A.. last Friday. The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that the barn in question was at Ravenwold Greenhouses.
It is reported that almost 400 birds were discovered at the site, and about three quarters of them were bred specifically for cock-fighting. According to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (MSPCA), a majority of the roosters are too aggressive to be rehabilitated and kept in custody. These roosters are now slated to be euthanized.
Officials say no arrests have been made so far.
The owner of the facility claims that he has never been inside the farm, as he has rented out the building to another person.
No names have been released to the public.
