UPDATE: 2 residents, 1 firefighter injured in house fire in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence firefighters were battling a heavy fire at a home on Monticello Street on Friday morning.

According to Fire Chief Derek Silva, 52 firefighters responded to the scene. 

Two occupants and a firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Fire officials said the first calls came in just after 11 a.m.

They said approximately 15 people will be displaced, because the building is not livable.

A dog and a cat also died in the fire.

ABC6 news crews saw heavy flames escaping from the windows.

It’s unclear how the fire started at this time. The cause is under investigation, fire officials said.
