Counselors renew liquor license for Boon Street Market in Narragansett despite concerns

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — Boon Street Market had their licensed renewed for another year by the Narragansett Town Council, despite multiple concerns from residents about quality of life issues.
During a town council meeting last night, counselors approved the liquor license 5-0, with stipulations that the restaurant must stop the live music at 9 p.m., and turn off the outdoor speakers by 11 p.m.
The eatery opened to the pubic at 145 Boon Street during the summer.
Multiple residents showed up to speak during the meeting about sound issues, drinking, parking, and more.
“A lot of is trial and error, a lot of it takes time, a lot of money, and a lot of cooperation from state and local officials and boards to help come to fruition,” said the owner, Lindsay Holmes during the meeting.
The owners of the restaurant said they have made multiple other upgrades to address the issues of noise, cleaning, and patron disturbances.
A representative for neighbors surrounding the restaurant said they weren’t anti-business, and didn’t want to see the business closed, but wanted to see a more “responsible operation.”
“The atmosphere of the whole place seemed like a club for college kids, compared to a place you’d want to take the whole family to for food and fun,” said one resident, describing their experience at Boon Street Market.
Another resident defended the owners of the business, and said they were good and decent people who had kids in the community, adding that if the town was going to restrict visitors or patrons to Narragansett, they would have “bigger problems” down the line.
“We don’t live in a sleepy beach town anymore,” he said.
