Rehoboth family gifted Christmas light display after losing loved one to cancer
REHOBOTH, Mass. (WLNE) — A Massachusetts family that recently lost a loved one received a Christmas gift a little early this year.
The Titcomb’s were surprised by a beautiful light display just in time for the holidays.
“Every year, Chris and myself and the girls would always decorate outside, so to have this done for us is absolutely incredible,” Katie Titcomb said.
Last year, the Titcomb family experienced the unthinkable when Chris, Katie’s husband, was suddenly diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
He was treated with radiation and chemotherapy, and 28 days later, he died surrounded by his family.
Chris was 44-years-old.
“It doesn’t feel the same and it will never feel the same but this is our new normal and we have to to figure it out and to have something special like this, it makes it a little bit easier,” Katie said.
This year will be 10-year-old Hailey and 8-year-old Sarah’s second Christmas without their dad.
To the Titcomb’s, the lights are a friendly reminder of Chris.
“He had always wanted this wreath on the top of the garage, he said a wreath was made for this garage so to have it up there is just an awesome symbol,” Katie said. “To drive under it every day just feels really, really special.”
The décor was set up by SeaScape in partnership with Friend’s Way, an organization that helps families who’ve lost someone.
Katie said it’s the community’s support that’s gotten her, and her little girls, through the last 18 months.
“Leaning on family and friends is really what it comes down to,” Katie said.
