Police warn dangers of pickpocketing after arrest in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police are warning residents to be aware of their surroundings during the holiday season after a pickpocketing suspect was captured on surveillance.
In a video, Assistant Chief Scott Carola said the potential for larceny can go up around the holidays, and residents should keep personal belongings safe to avoid being victims of theft.
On November 26, a 65-year-old man entered a convenience story on County Street.
According to officials, surveillance video showed 47-year-old Daniel Raposo distracting the man while allegedly stealing an envelope containing $14,000.
Raposo was arrested and charged with larceny and assault and battery on a person aged 60 years or older.
Officers discovered that the $14,000 has been spent.
