Cranston man convicted for child pornography possession while on supervised release

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston registered sex offender has been convicted in Providence federal court on child pornography charges while on supervised release for a similar offense, according to the United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.

David A. Skally, 65, was convicted Friday of access with intent to view child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Skally was convicted of possessing and accessing with the intent to view child pornography in 2016 and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison with five years of supervised release.

He committed his most recent crimes during this release period.

Skally admitted to viewing sexually explicit images of children “over ten times” during 2020 and 2021 examinations by his sex offender treatment team.

Skally also attempted to avoid monitoring software required during his probation.

Further investigation of Skally’s computer revealed several child pornography images.

Skally will be sentenced on March 13, 2025 and is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in federal prison.
