Rain tapers off tonight, returns Wednesday along with wind

What started as a sunny Monday quickly turned into a cloudy afternoon and then a soggy evening.

The rain will taper off around 9pm and skies will remain mostly cloudy through the day on Wednesday, along with some drizzle.

Rain will return Tuesday night, and we are facing a 24-hour soaker across Southern New England. A Stormtracker Alert day is in effect for Wednesday.

Waves of heavy rain will move right over us throughout the day on Wednesday, leading to 2-3″ of rain.

This is great for our drought situation, but less than ideal for everything else as runoff will contribute to localized flooding.

We will also see breezy conditions throughout the day, but it will be downright windy Wednesday evening through the night and into Thursday morning.

A *High Wind Watch* has been posted for Washington and Bristol counties in RI, and much of SE Mass including the Cape and Islands.

Winds in these locations could gust over 50 mph, and spotty power outages are possible. It will still be blustery for the rest of our area as well.

Clear and colder weather returns for the end of the week, with temperatures moderating over the weekend. More rain is possible late Sunday into Monday.
