North Attleborough Fire Department shares safety tips to prepare for winter weather

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The North Attleborough Fire Department shared tips to prepare for the winter weather and take the proper precautions.
To prepare for a storm:
- Prepare for power outages by charging electronic devices, or consider purchasing a generator
- Prepare your home for possible emergencies
- Clear clogged rain gutters
- Maintain heating equipment and chimneys
- Remove dead/rotting trees to prevent them from falling on your home
- Ensure your home has enough heating fuel
- Prepare emergency kits with seasonal supplies/supplies needed for family’s needs

During a storm:
- Avoid driving during dangerous conditions
- If driving is necessary, find driving safety tips on mass.gov
- Reduce outdoor activity
- Dress for the weather with several layers of loose-fitting clothing in addition to a tight-fighting outer layer
- Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia

After a storm:

- Report power outages to the town’s electric department
