Overdose Task Force

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Project Weber/RENEW will celebrate a “historic milestone in public health and harm reduction” as it cuts the country’s first state-sanctioned Overdose Prevention Center in Providence.

According to a release, the groundbreaking facility represents a “pivotal moment in the effort to address the ongoing overdose crisis, offering a safe, monitored space for individuals with immediate access to life-saving interventions and holistic wraparound services.”

The center is authorized by Rhode Island state law and will be regulated by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The ribbon-cutting will feature state and local officials, public health experts, and community advocates.

Attendees who come to the ribbon cutting, according to the release, will learn more about the center’s mission to prevent overdose deaths and connect individuals to medical and behavioral health treatment, peer support, and social services.

The event is set for 2 p.m. at Care New England Health Center.
