Judge allows delay of Karen Read trial

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Judge Beverly Cannone, who oversees Karen Read’s criminal case, has agreed to postpone the upcoming second trial of Karen Read, according to ABC6’s affiliate, WCVB.
Back in November, attorneys filed a joint request to move the second trial back from Jan. 27 to April 1, saying it would give both sides “adequate time” to prepare.
According to records, Cannone allowed the motion on Monday and ordered the attorneys to propose a new schedule by the end of the week.
Read is accused of killing her police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe with her car, and leaving him to die in the snow back in 2022. Over the summer, her first trial ended in a hung jury.
Her retrial was originally set for January 27.
Read is also facing a civil suit filed by O’Keefe’s family. The bars Read and O’Keefe went to on the night he died, C.F. McCarthy’s and Waterfall Bar & Grille, are also in the suit.
