Providence woman convicted in DUI breakdown lane death

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence woman was found guilty in Providence Superior Court Monday for a DUI crash that killed a woman in 2017.
Yiranis Liz, 37, was convicted of one count of driving while under the influence resulting in death and one count of driving to endanger resulting in death, according to the office of Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.
The incident occurred on October 22, 2017 when Rhode Island State Police responded to a crash on Route 95 south in Providence.
Liz was driving on 95 and lost control of her vehicle, swerving to the right and striking the victim who was standing outside of her own vehicle in the right breakdown lane.
38-year-old Andrea Bosworth was propelled 90 feet from the point of impact and was found unresponsive by emergency crews.
She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and placed in critical care where she died on November 23, 2017.
Liz was subjected to field sobriety tests at the scene and showed signs of impairment.
Liz was arrested and transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she refused a blood test.
Rhode Island State Police secured a warrant for the blood test and the results showed heightened levels of alcohol and the presence THC.
Liz was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and was ordered to surrender her passport.
She will be sentenced on February 20, 2025.
