State fire marshal confirms cause of Applebee’s fire
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal has released the official cause of the Applebee’s fire that happened back in October.
According to the case report, a worker from a cleaning company was cleaning down the hood, when they disconnected the grill from the gas line.
The report further states that gas continued to leak, and came into contact with a pilot burner.
According to officials, the worker told officials stated that he turned off the gas and looked for a fire extinguisher and he then turned around
and the fire was “too much.”
“So he ran for his life,” the report stated.
The building was determined to be a total loss.
Businesses surrounding Applebee’s that also sustained damage from the fire included Bistro 22, Chaska, Swarovski, Sun Glass Hut, and Lilly Pulitzer.
It’s unclear if Applebee’s plans to open in the future.
